Quite a while ago now I saw a recipe for Monkey Bread on The Pink Whisk and it looked so delicious I was desperate to try it. However, I didn’t have the special pan that Ruth used to make it in and I didn’t have a Bundt tin. I was wondering if I could fashion my own out of a cake tin and an empty can, but instead I decided that if I had some money for Christmas I would treat myself to a Monkey Bread Pan. So after Christmas I went onto the Lakeland website to order one but to my disappointment, they were all sold out
Anyway, a while ago I’d left a comment on Jax’s blog after Appliances Online had donated money to her chosen charities after she’d left a comment on Josie’s blog. See the chain here? Not only is commenting lovely, and appreciated by all bloggers, but sometimes it can lead to little treats too! So I was delighted when I received and email from Ben saying that Appliances Online would like to buy me a little gift from Lakeland. As the Monkey Bread Pan was sold out, I chose a Bundt Tin and what fun we are going to have together!
The Monkey Bread, which is little balls of dough coated in sugar and cinnamon and baked with a caramel sauce, was delicious and a huge hit with the children. Dale was away when I baked it so I’ll just have to make some more. What a shame!
Here is my lovely new tin in all its glory. Ruth has brilliant instructions on her blog so I won’t go through the recipe in detail, I’ll just give you a brief overview. Once you’ve made the dough (which I did in my bread machine) you cut it into small pieces, toss them in caster sugar and cinnamon and put them into the tin, leaving them to rise for an hour or so.
Once it has doubled in size (and in my case, is about to burst out of the tin!) you cover it in the caramel sauce and bake for about 35-40 minutes. Beware it is very hot when it comes out and the caramel sauce will burn you! It is best eaten warm and on the day it is made. We did eat some the next day and it was still lovely, but not as good as when it is fresh from the oven.
