Sometimes the children say the funniest things and Grace came out with a few cracking remarks today.
The first was when we left the cake shop after buying decorating supplies this morning. I’d told the lady there that I was decorating a dummy cake. Once we got outside Grace looked at me and said very sternly, “We mustn’t say dummy, it’s not kind”. So that told me!
Later in the afternoon we were doing some crafting and she was cutting pieces of tissue paper up. The conversation went something like this:
Grace: Look, this piece I’ve cut is fin.
Me: It is. Remember we say thin, with a ‘th’.
Grace: Oh yeah, thin. And this piece is fat. Ooops I mean *that*.
I love some of the things they come out with, it must be so difficult when you’ve got so much to learn!

Aww, bless her. They do have to learn so much don’t they and we often forget how much we are trying to teach them at such a young age. This a gorgeous photograph. I was just showing it to Amy (my daughter) and she said, “wow, who’s that, she’s really pretty.”

Awww… thank you CJ! Grace has always been such a good reader that I sometimes forget that she’s only 5 years old and there is no hurry to learn stuff! x

Well that’s you told! I love it when I am corrected by my kids with something literally correct but completely wrong – makes you realise how difficult learning language is although I don’t think anyone can never remember actually learning their first language. Thanks for sharing. Cx

It’s so sweet the way it makes perfect sense to them but seems so funny to us! When I look at the difference between my two girls (3 year age gap) I can’t believe the rate at which they learn stuff!

oh bless her. English really is a silly language though, isn’t it?

It is a silly language isn’t it?! We spend ages teaching spelling rules and then find that there are just as many exceptions to the rules!
