My Grandmas taught me to knit when I was little and I could do the basics – garter stitch and stocking stitch, and knit squares and scarves. I’d never really tried anything else and hadn’t picked up the needles in years. Just after Christmas one of my friends asked if I knew of any knitting groups in the area as she had been given knitting stuff for Christmas and wanted to learn. I didn’t know of any groups but thought I too would give knitting another go. Now we meet one evening each week to have our own mini ‘stitch n bitch’ group!

I decided it was about time to stop knitting squares and scarves and have a go at knitting something different so I started with a pattern for a cupcake that my friend pointed out to me on a lovely website called Little Cotton Rabbits. After a reasonable attempt at a cupcake I moved onto knitting an angel cake and a swiss roll.

Although these things all looked pretty, they weren’t much use! So I thought it was now time to tackle an item of clothing and started trawling knitting bogs and websites admiring other people’s patterns and knitted items. When I stumbled upon a gorgeous cardigan named the Cowgirl Butterfly Astronaut Vest by Fawn Pea, I fell in love with it and had to knit it for Grace. I did struggle with it in places and looking back, I should have knitted it a little longer, but all in all both Grace and I were pleased with it. Grace chose her own buttons to go on the cardigan and they are quite cute (although they don’t stay done up!).

Now I’m halfway through knitting a little tank top for Faith, I just hope I finish before she gets too big for it!
