I’ve been wanting to visit Borough Market for ages, but every time I’m up in London I seem to run out of time or be rushing to get back home. So when Dale took me to London last weekend as a belated Christmas present we decided that we’d definitely plan it into our schedule.
We started the weekend with a lovely meal out – we actually had a conversation that didn’t revolve around children and was totally uninterrupted! Then we went to see Wicked at the Apollo Victoria, which was a totally amazing show – even Dale, who isn’t a big fan of musicals, loved it! Then we stayed over in a hotel (with quite possibly the smallest rooms in the world!) and the next day, after a hearty hotel breakfast, set off for what shall now be known as, Foodie Heaven.
I warn you now that there are going to be many, many photos in this post because the range of food available at the market was astounding. To begin with, I just wandered around in awe and, according to Dale, made a variety of squealing noises, oohing and ahhing over the many different stalls.
The fresh fruit and vegetables looked so vibrant, all laid out beautifully. The baked goods were fantastic, with some English muffins that were the size of a child’s head!
I was particularly taken with the bright green and chocolate Mattenberg, with its super squidgy marzipan. It looked intriguing, the slice was huge and it was absolutely scrummy.
One of the best bits is that you get to try before you buy! I sampled loads of cheeses, meats, sweets, nuts and even some raspberry and chilli ice cream made with goats milk. If only we’d brought a bigger suitcase, I would have spent a fortune!
I always like to try something new so I decided on a kangaroo burger for lunch. I was actually really delicious and full of flavour. Not only will I take a larger suitcase next time but I’ll make sure I have a mini fridge with me so I can bring some back home!
After all that food and excitement we had a lovely stroll back along the South Bank to the train station. I really can’t wait to go again – what an amazing place!
Have you been to Borough Market before? What should I buy next time I’m there?

I love the place! But, hard on the purse π I always come back with a Cinnamon tree brownie – my fav. And you get great grilled scallops at the fishmonger near the Kangooroo burger place.

It’s a fabulous market. I went last year. I only wish there was a similar market local to me.

I’ve only been once too, and that much to my chagrin as I actually live in London! Nowhere useful, having said that, since Barnet is miles away from Borough Market, but still! Time to plan another trip methinks…

When I lived in London I went about once a month. Amazing place, now I am back in South Africa I long for it. We have nothing like that here.
