So before Christmas I posted this picture of my half finished knitting as I didn’t want to reveal what it was and spoil someone’s Christmas surprise.
Several people had a go at guessing but no-one got it right. Now I can reveal that it was…
… a pair of slippers for my Mum. They were knitted on large needles using two strands of yarn together, then felted in the washing machine until they were the right size. I think they went down very well π

Brilliant! I would be too worried about getting to the right size I think. How did you manage that?

Luckily my Mum’s feet are a similar size to mine (and they are quite stretchy slippers!)

It took me ages to teach myself to crochet and I’m still not very good at it! Good luck π

Wow! those slippers are lovely – did you pay and download the pattern or did you find it free on ravelry (I clicked on your link)

I think it was a paid download, but wasn’t very expensive. It was my first time felting and it was fairly easy to do – I put it through the wash twice with no spin cycle.
Thanks for visiting my blog, x

Your blog is very informative. It seems we do much the same things!! Regarding the slippers! What type of yarn did you use and what size needles?
thanks x

I used a felting yarn, I think it was called ‘wash+filz-it’ and I got it off ebay. The needles were 10mm.

Hi Amy
Hope all is well. Ive finally knitted and sewn together my felted slippers – ive never felted before, and have done a little research! but I wondered if you had any hints and tips on time length and temperature in washing machine? All the info Ive read is for a USA top loader machine – I obviously have a front loader!! Melynda states in her pattern, put it on the hottest wash and check every 5-10 minutes – but I’ve been told 60 degree wash but for how long!? My hottest temp wash is 90 degrees! My washer is also a cold loader so heats up as wash begins (but Im not sure exactly at which point?!)
Oh its very confussing and normally Im quite savvy!!
Any info you can give is very very appreciated!
MANY THANKS
Chantelle xx
