Many of you, especially those who follow me on twitter, will know that crochet has not come easy to me! I can knit no problem and have knitted several items of clothing for my children, but crochet – just can’t get it!
With this is mind, you will understand just how proud I am of my crochet rug. I cut up endless strips of jersey fabric and crocheted them into this fine rug. It has taken me a long time and I’m not sure I ended up with the same number of stitches I started with, but thankfully it is a forgiving design and fabric to work with!
I have created a little book corner in the dining room and the girls love sitting on the rug together and sharing books. I’ll try and get a photo of them later.
So, what do you think? Please tell me you’re impressed?! 😉

It’s awesome. I love the colours.
I tried to do similar last year – crochetting a rug out of strips of leftover fabric. It was something of an epic fail. The hook I had meant that the crochet was too tight, and I massively underestimated the amount of fabric I would need to make even a small-rug-sized thing.
The result only good enough to be put to use as a catflap doormat, for my cats to avoid wiping their feet on when they come in out of the rain. They prefer to make a beeline for the nearest warm person, preferably someone who is wearing clean or new clothes.

Thank you! I was worried I might break the crochet hook as it was cheap and plastic and I had to keep buying more fabric to finish it (hence the colour variations!) I hear you with the cat business. My cat always makes a beeline for the person in the room who hates cats, jumps onto their lap and sharpens her claws on their legs!

We’ve tweeted about this and I like it! I think it looks sweet and the colours are great. I’m still trying to teach myself to crochet but get so frustrated I end up putting my hook away in disgust!

I know how you feel! Keep trying – it does get easier in the end, although I don’t think I’ll ever be able to crochet anything complicated like clothes! Good luck 🙂

Thanks Natalie, it seems there are a lot of us who can’t quite get the hang of it! I don’t think I’ll ever be good enough to make clothes. Good luck with your second attempt 🙂 x

I adore it. Can you share the pattern? My mom crochets and is a whiz at it. I can do it, but I’m much slower than she is.

Thanks Stephanie. It was just rows and rows of double crochet (UK, single crochet US) into the front loops only using strips of jersey fabric. You can then make it as wide and long as you like and just keep knotting more fabric on as you go.
