Patchwork owl birthday cake

In February my ‘baby’ was 6 years old. Where on earth does the time go?! At the moment she is owl obsessed. She has owls on her bedroom walls, an owl cushion on her rocking chair, owl fabric for her blinds and various other little owl toys and decorations. So, it wasn’t a huge surprise when she requested an owl birthday cake!

It was also the perfect excuse for me to get myself a copy of Lindy Smith’s latest book – Creative Colour for Cake Decorating. I have all of Lindy’s books and absolutely love them. I find that in each book there are lots of cakes that appeal and that I would actually make. Indeed, there are quite a few, including this patchwork owl, that I have made from her books.

I didn’t have the same cutters and embossing mats that Lindy used in her version, so I used my own colours and cutters. It was such fun to put together and even though it was quite time consuming, I think it was worth the effort. Faith loved it, so I’ll call that a success.
