Hope you all had a lovely Christmas. We have had lots of presents, delicious food and plenty to drink. Dale and I were very lucky as we were treated to a night away in the Donnington Valley Hotel as one of our presents.

We started with a visit to the Spa where Dale had a swim and I sat and read my new crochet books. Then we had afternoon tea in the beautiful bar, with its high ceilings and roaring log fire.

The three tier stand was packed full with a huge selection of sandwiches, scones with jam and cream, mini mince pies and chocolate brownies all washed down with a giant pot of tea. There was so much it was a struggle to fit it all in – but unsurprisingly, I did manage! 😉

After this we just chilled. There were no children demanding to know what we were eating or constant requests for us to watch and listen and we even had uninterrupted conversations. As much as we love the children, it was bliss! In the evening we were still full from afternoon tea, so we skipped dinner and went straight for drinks. I knitted and read with a lovely gin and tonic.

In the morning we had a lay in until 9am then dragged ourselves down for a full English breakfast before checking out. Now we’re recharged and back to the real world!

What did you all get for Christmas?
